To start out our trip, we were faced with a LONG plane ride. 6 hours from BWI to LAX, and then another 14.5 hours from LAX to SYD. Not fun. We love to travel, we hate to fly. Andy is always crammed into a seat made for someone much shorter and Katherine always suffers from mild motion-sickness. A few weeks ago, we toyed with the idea of using miles for an upgrade into Business Class. This must be one of the best decisions we have ever made. Ever. It started in LA, with passage into the Red Carpet Club. Free snacks, free drinks, and away from the crowd in the terminal. It was nice. But that was nothing compared to boarding the plane, walking upstairs in the 747, and seeing our recently-renovated pod with personal TVs and seats that reclined to 180 degrees. We were fed, were poured wine, had glasses of water refilled without our noticing, had numerous options for entertainment (movies, TV, games, etc)...and most of all, we slept. Like babies. It was awesome. The flight might well have been only 6 hours long. We arrived in Sydney (which we love, by the way) rested and ready to see the city. Long story short, if you are ever faced with the option to upgrade on a long flight, TAKE IT. Do not even hesitate.
